White Cookies

I have always liked these better then sugar cookies and they are perfect to roll out for your cookie decorating.

2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream (I know odd but it makes they yummy)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp. Vanilla
5 cups flour

In your mixer start off by combining your sugar and shortening and eggs. Once mixed add your salt and baking soda and vanilla. Once you have all these mixed together slowly start to add your flour with your mixer running on a slow speed. Somtimes it has only taken 4 cups of flour but I have always needed the 5. What you are looking for is a soft pliable dough that isnt going to sick to you and everything else so do a finger test and see how stickly it is as you are adding the last couple cups of flour.

Chill for 2 hours in the fridge. Then roll out and cut into the shapes you have and place on a greesed cookie sheet. These should bake for 10 to 12 minutes in a 375 degree oven.

The thicker you have your dough rolled out the more your cookies will rise and puff and the thinner the more they will spread out. Personally I like them thicker but you have to find what works for you. Let cool and then decorate as you like.
